Creating a better place to play at Fundación Juanito
Following a group consultation, the Argentine team looked into a number of children’s charities before selecting Fundación Juanito for their Global Day of Giving project. Fundación Juanito is an orphanage in Buenos Aires which provides a home to around 25 children from 3 to 20 years old. Founded by private individuals, companies and government assistance, the orphanage relies on the participation of the wider community to carry out some of its projects.
The Argentine team went to Fundación Juanito in May 2014 for the Global Day of Giving. Tasks included assisting in organizing, cleaning, cutting the grass and in general improving the children’s playground. “The work proved to be physically demanding. However we worked together as a team and did it!” says Leticia Cassanello, the Project Leader. “We distributed different tasks according to our skills and helped each other complete the work. The experience helped us reflect on the things we often take for granted.” After completing the Global Day of Giving project, many of the team members volunteered to assist with Fundación Juanito’s fund-raising event, the “Kermesse”.
Leticia felt she came away from the experience with stronger project and time management skills. She also learned the value of different types of donations. “It doesn’t always have to include money. Some of the more valuable contributions can be time, effort and expertise. We all feel that being a good corporate citizen and giving our time to help others is very important to the community and to our own work environment.”
