Preserve and Protect: Challenge & Innovate
Anita Groener was born in The Netherlands where she studied in Arnheim and Tilburg, qualifying with an MA in 1982, after which she moved to Ireland later that year. Groener makes paintings, monumental site-specific wall drawings, film and animation which she exhibits extensively in Europe. The focus in her work is a consideration of home and displacement as situated within modern geopolitical realities. To capture the actuality of this lived experience she uses strategies and economies of (extended) drawing, as well as formal aspects of scale and monochromes. Groener attempts to address our shared responsibility to reflect upon and process change and the speed of change in modern society. Groener was elected to Aosdána in 2005 and is a lecturer in Fine Art at Dublin Institute of Technology. She is represented by Rubicon Projects/Rubicon Gallery.
