Susan Comparato Named General Counsel of XLCA

New York, New York, August 9, 2004 - XL Capital Group Assurance Inc. (XLCA) announced today that Susan Comparato has been named General Counsel. She was previously an Associate General Counsel at XLCA, and replaces Frederick B. Hnat, who was named Chief Operating Officer of XL Capital Group Assurance (U.K.) Limited, XLCA's wholly owned, London-based subsidiary, last month. Ms. Comparato will also be a member of XLCA's Board of Directors, Credit Committee, and Management Committee.
Ms. Comparato joined XLCA in March 2001 from Barclays Capital, where she was Associate Director, Risk Finance. She began her career at Sidley Austin Brown & Wood (formerly Brown & Wood), as an Associate in the Securitization Group.
