New XL Insurance Excess & Surplus Unit Launched

 — LONDON, ENGLAND - December 1, 2005 - Clive Tobin, Chief Executive responsible for XL Capital Ltd's insurance operations ("XL Insurance") today announced the addition of a new Excess & Surplus (E&S) unit to its operations.
John M. DiBiasi has been appointed to join the company as E&S President. E&S policies will be underwritten through Indian Harbor Insurance Company. The new unit will be dedicated to providing primary casualty coverages to mid-size and large businesses and will report to David Duclos, Chief Underwriting Officer of Specialty operations for XL Insurance.
Mr. Tobin commented: "This is a natural evolution for XL Insurance operations. Our Bermuda and Dublin origins very much reflect an E&S culture. John brings nearly three decades of industry experience and has built many strong industry relationships, especially with key managing general agents and wholesale brokers. His experience and knowledge will be critical to XL Insurance becoming a leading E&S market."
Mr. DiBiasi comes to the XL Insurance companies from Nautilus Insurance Company in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he served as Executive Vice President of Underwriting. He began his 28-year career with the Insurance Services Office and held various underwriting and marketing positions in the E&S and standard insurance marketplaces.
Mr. DiBiasi said: "While the XL Insurance E&S unit will focus on primary casualty business, we will also have the capacity to provide property and umbrella business. I look forward to working with Property, Casualty, Professional and other Specialty units within XL Insurance operations and providing E&S coverage to our clients as needed."
