John Welch became President of XL Reinsurance America Inc. in 2006 and Chief Executive Officer in 2009. He is a Managing Director of XL Group and a member of its Reinsurance Executive Group. Formerly, John was Head of Casualty and Surety Underwriting for XL Reinsurance America Inc. From 2000 to 2004, John was Chief Actuary and Strategic Planning Officer, responsible for pricing and reserving for all business lines.
He joined XL Group through a merger with NAC Re, where he had served as Vice President and Pricing Manager since 1997. He also held various actuarial positions at Travelers/Aetna Property and Casualty Corp.
John is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Fairfield University.
